Application of Thermochemical Method to Determine the Crystallinity Degree of Cellulose Materials

Currently, to characterize the crystallinity of cellulose, such an estimated parameter as index is used, measured by various methods and techniques. The main purpose this article was develop a thermochemical method for determining real degree (X) cellulose based on measurement enthalpy wetting. Various samples, MCC, pure cotton bleached wood pulps, mercerized celluloses, viscose rayon fibers, were used. For these exothermic wetting (ΔHw), maximum amount sorbed moisture (Ao), well X-ray (CrI) studied. dependence ΔHw Ao linear can be expressed equation: = k Ao, where coefficient −336 (J/g). After substituting theoretical value Ao,a 0.5 (g/g) into equation, numerical ΔHw,a −168 (J/g) completely amorphous obtained. As result, equation calculating in mass fractions derived: X 1 − (ΔHw/ΔHw,a). Analysis obtained results showed that only content crystallites instead approximate CrI parameter.
